EasyJet is facing a €70,000 fine in France after forcing a disabled woman off a flight because she was unaccompanied, in the latest discrimination case against the budget airline.

In one of two cases before French courts this week involving claims against the airline from wheelchair users, the public prosecutor on Monday called on a Paris appeals court to increase a fine imposed on easyJet last year.

The British company was fined €5,000 and ordered to pay another €5,000 in damages in May 2012 in a case brought by Marie-Patricia Hoarau, who is wheelchair-bound.

Easyjet appealed the verdict, saying it was complying with British law when it forced her to disembark for security reasons.

Despite having flown alone the previous day, Miss Hoarau was ordered taken off a flight from Paris to the French Riviera city of Nice in March 2010.
