Disability Support Services Unit (DSSU), a student support structure under the Division of Student Affairs that exists to coordinate academic adjustments (accommodations) and support services to students with disabilities enrolled at the University of Botswana. At DSSU, we work with students with disabilities to identify their special learning needs and collaborate with departments to create a barrier-free learning environment. In addition, to this lobbying as well as raising awareness on disability issues to promote understanding of accessibility within the UB community.
The University is committed to providing wider access, high quality, and innovative services to students with disabilities to create an inclusive learning environment in which students with disabilities will have equal opportunity for education, participation in University activities to competently realize their academic, career and personal goals. DSSU offers individual support for students with hearing impairment, visual impairment, learning disabilities, speech and language impairments/ communication disorders, chronic health impairments, multiple conditions, cognitive impairments, psychiatric conditions and physical impairments. DSSU offers learner support programs and services. We can help with diagnostic and support needs assessments, assistive devices, psychosocial network support and referrals.
Promoting Equal Opportunity
The University of Botswana is non discriminatory in its admission procedures. Therefore individuals are encouraged to make the DSSU aware of any permanent and temporary disability. DSSU will make arrangements to ensure that such students are not excluded from accessing and participating in University programs and activities.
