A Boulder disability rights organization is urging residents to boycott the Subway restaurant located near the intersection of Arapahoe Avenue and Folsom Street until the store makes improvements to allow access to people with disabilities.

The group, Boulder ADAPT, in a news release issued Saturday indicated the complaint stems from the shop, located at 2359 Arapahoe Ave., refusing requests to provide a ramp over a single step in front of the store.

ADAPT has twice written letters to the Subway offering to assist with the work and is prepared to file a federal civil rights complaint against the location if it will not “reasonably commit to provide access,” according to the news release.

In the release, ADAPT listed four things it is asking for: that Subway commit in a reasonable amount of time to make the property accessible, that Subway work with the neighboring Tibet Kitchen restaurant on shared access and accessible parking, that Subway market to a diverse population and not exclusively to non-disabled patrons, and that Subway report regularly to Boulder ADAPT on its accessibility progress.
