FAMILIES living in the Bundaberg region now have greater access to disability support services after two new facilities opened by Disability Services Minister Tracy Davis today.

Ms Davis said the Autism Early Intervention Outcomes Unit (AEIOU) Foundation and Community Lifestyle Support Ability Centre would play an important role in the delivery of disability supports.

"The Newman Government is committed to improving the quality of life, delivering better outcomes and services for people living with a disability, their families and carers," Ms Davis said.

"Non-government organisations such as AEIOU and the Community Lifestyle Support Ability Centre will play an important role once DisabilityCare rolls out, so it's great to see the range of supports extended in Bundaberg ahead of the transition."

Member for Bundaberg Jack Dempsey said the new AEIOU Foundation centre at the Central Queensland University Campus at Branyan would provide 12 full-time placements for children with autism aged up to six years.

"It can be very challenging to raise a child with autism and early intervention support from organisations such as AEIOU is vital to making a life-long difference to a child's development and well-being," Mr Dempsey said.

Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said the new extension to the Community Lifestyle Support Ability Centre at Kalkie allowed disability clients to enjoy more outdoor space and better workshop facilities.

"The new centre will increase the range of programs on offer to support people of all ages who have a disability, as well as their families," Mr Bennett said.

"This includes the stepping stones therapy centre, after school care program, in-home support program, residential accommodation facilities and Getting Involved community access program."
