FRASER Coast Deputy Mayor George Seymour has called for the creation of maps disabled people can use to find the assistance available to them in the region's towns.

Cr Seymour said other councils had similar maps and used them to promote the whereabouts of things such as disability ramps, parking and toilets.

He said it would allow, for example, a person in a wheelchair to plot their route through an area such as the Portside precinct, and avoid problems.

"They would be maps that clearly show where accessible toilets are, ramps are, where accessible bus stops are," Cr Seymour said.

"A lot of other towns have it, we wouldn't be the first, but I don't think it would be too difficult.

Cr Seymour said the making of the maps would teach the council a lot about how accessible its towns were.

He suggested feedback indicated the project would be successful.

He proposed the idea to Fraser Coast Regional Council chief executive officer Lisa Desmond at the latest council meeting and she will now prepare a report.
