TWENTY-FIVE years and going strong.

That’s the Sportability Club which celebrated the anniversary by lifting a trophy.

It was just reward for a club which the awards judges regarded as hugely important within the community, especially as they provide a full, comprehensive and diverse range of activities.

The club had helped to provide a quality of life and improved social skills for its members, the judges felt.

Sportability trampoline coach Janet Shaw said: “It is fantastic to get something like this with it being our 25th birthday.”

Secretary and coach Glynis Hanson added: “It is always nice to recognition in your own town.”

Liz Starrs is the sports co-ordinator for the club and said: “This award is for all the volunteers. Quite a number of people give us their support.”

The club is based in the Headland Sports Hall and meets on a Tuesday evening from 7pm to 9pm.

It allows its members to take part in sports such as beach volleyball, rock climbing, Nordic walking and archery.

The club was first set up in 1988 by the Hartlepool Borough Council sports development team. From a handful of people, it now has a thriving membership of about 60 people with a waiting list of more who are eager to join.
