LOMA LINDA >> An Omnitrans bus transporting disabled passengers was involved in a head-on crash Monday on a Loma Linda street, sending 10 people to area hospitals, authorities said.

The crash between the bus and a white car happened about 4 p.m. near Lawton and Mountain View avenues.

One victim was in critical condition, a Loma Linda University Medical Center spokesman said.

San Bernardino County sheriff’s officials on the scene said the car’s driver was the most seriously injured.

All nine adult passengers on the bus also were taken to Loma Linda or Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, but authorities said their injuries appeared minor.

Of the four bus passengers taken to Loma Linda, three were treated and released and the last one was expected to be released within an hour, hospital spokesman Larry Becker said at 5:30 p.m.

An Arrowhead spokesperson could not be reached for details about the patients taken there.

Wendy Williams, a spokeswoman for Omnitrans, said the bus was part of the Omnitrans Access Service, which provides rides for people with physical or mental disabilities who are unable to use the agency’s standard bus service.

Passengers generally make individual reservations to use Omnitrans Access Service.

Williams said the service is operated by MV Transportation. That company, according to its website, provides bus service for colleges, secondary schools, handicapped people and corporations, among others.
