Race Director Dan Martin presented Northeast Missouri Association for Citizens with Disabilities a check from the money raised at the Saint Patrick’s Day race. “We've been doing this same event for 29 years to raise money for Northeast Missouri Association for Citizens with Disabilities,” Martin said. “And I think we'll continue to do this for as many years as they'll let us.”
The not-for-profit organization uses the money to purchase equipment and services for people with disabilities. “We like to say we help people who would otherwise fall through the cracks and provide services that people otherwise wouldn't be able to afford to have,” said Linda Treasure.
“People with disabilities have an awful lot of expenses. The equipment, the services that they need … there all very expensive, so if we can help out some people during the year and help them live a more independent life and improve the quality of their life then that’s what we want to do,” Treasure said.
The race raised a total of $2,200.
Treasure said this year they are able to send children to Wonderland Camp at the Lake of the Ozarks and also provide therapeutic horseback riding for a young boy.
